A Message from State Senator Doug Thomas
June 18, 2012
Dear Friends and Neighbor:
Thank you for the privilege of representing District 27 in the Maine Senate. We've accomplished a lot in the last two years. We lowered taxes, reformed health insurance, and streamlined regulatory process. We saved some money this session at the Department of Transportation even though we fixed more miles of road than any time in the last decade. The promises we made retired state workers are more secure because of reforms made to that system. We still have a lot of work to do if our children and grandchildren are going to me able to make a decent living in the state of Maine.
Income tax rates need to be reduced so that we can save for our retirement, and to create an environment where high-paying jobs can prevail. Our transportation systems need to be improved to reduce the costs of getting Maine products to market. We need more streamlining in the regulatory process so that we have a process that protects our safety without killing the jobs we need. We need to reduce the burden of high energy costs with cheaper alternatives to foreign oil. There's plenty of work to do, and with your support I'll continue to do that work.
In the days and weeks ahead I hope to hear from you about your concerns, your hopes and dreams, and what you think we need to do to make Maine and even better place to live.
Please feel free to contact me if you ever need my help in navigating the state bureaucracy. I would be happy to help in any way that I can. I can be reached in Augusta at 287-1505 or by e-mail at email@example.com
